On an average, the different trails in the park and even the hikes around Banff can be termed as being easily manageable even by new hikers. Some of the popular easy hikes in Banff include

Bow River/Hoodoos Hike Trails

The bow river trail is very close to downtown and can be easily complete in a very short time. The trail is mostly paved, with benches along the side to offer opportunity to sit back and enjoy the views around. You can enjoy a picnic lunch or a light snack on the trail. The paved part of the trail from the street of Muskrat to the trail end at the Northwest is wheelchair friendly, and you may come across chair bound people enjoying nature as well.

The Bow river trail takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete with a 20m elevation gain from Central park area to the Surprise corner view, the rest of the trail is flat.

Connecting with the Bow river trail is the Hoodoos trail descending down to the river. The trail follows the river on both the north and east side under the Tunnel Mountain’s cliff face. The trail further leads to the northeast side climb on the mountain, eventually coming out at the tunnel mountain road close to the campgrounds.

Fenland Hike Trails

The Fenland trail is also among the easy hikes in Banff, allowing a trouble-free walk alone or with your dog round the year, enjoying the area’s wildlife. The trail is basically a woodland loop that winds in between forests of spruce, along the Forty Mile Creek banks. The loop is about 2 km long with no elevation points, and you will see many local runners enjoying the run on the trail away from the town area.

Johnson Lake Hike Trail

The circuit trail is about 3.5 km long and is a wonderful walk experience in the early season. The lake is snow free from April and you can enjoy montane forest in the lower valley, along with marshy areas along the way. On the counter clockwise hike of the trail, wonderful views of the Cascade Mountains can be enjoyed from the north shore area which is lightly forested.

Spray River Hike Trail

The Spray River loop hike follows the river’s stream to a picnic area. The trail is 6 km long and returns back from the footbridge to the other side of the valley. For those who want to extend their path can also move on forward from the picnic area on other connecting hike trails of goat Creek.

The trail is not only popular with hikers, rather horse riders and bikers too can enjoy them round the year, except in winters. The winters see these trails in form of ski trails and locals often enjoy short cross country ski loops on the trails.

This is one easy hikes Banff that can be started from either the golf course road, or from the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel parking. The 12 km long trail takes about 3 to 4 hours to complete with slight elevation exceeding to 65m.

There are several other small and relatively small easy hikes in Banff that can be enjoyed year round. The Banff area is bustling with wildlife and natural beauty and at times it becomes really difficult to decide which trail to opt for and which one to leave for the next time.
